Project Blog:
9:12 AM 12/28/2006 - V. Craig Jordan is the first page edited by an anonymous person. Cheers!
8:50 PM 12/6/2006 - Save has been enabled. It may be taken down if it is abused, or if new bugs crop up. - If you find a bug, please goto the forum and let us know about it so we can improve this software. Our official GPL release is comming.
2:50 PM 11/30/2006 - Looking for the outback! Good Aye Mate,

8:21 PM 11/26/2006 - An early version of the editor is now up and running. SAVE IS DISABLED UNTIL SOME SECURITY ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED. It is on all pages in the main site. As soon as I see people going in and actually using this feature, I will enable the toolbar at the top. This is basically a test, to see if people actually want to edit, or not.
12:03 PM 11/26/2006 - Below are some more statistics from various parts of the world. Since I travelled to China several times, and it is one of my favourite destinations, I will show you the chinese penetration first:
wo ai zhong guo!

Next, lets have a look at South Korea, Very interesting to see the concentration near and around Seoul.

If you are ever in Asia, make sure you visit Japan:

Indian food is my favourite food, and I would love to visit India one day, this is interesting:

C'est grand !

Another place I would like to visit is South Africa:
Singapore is a small island with about 5 million people on it, it is an awesome place to visit:
11:42 AM 11/26/2006 - Server Gambit - There comes a time in every websites life where it needs a faster server. Please visit this link, and you will agree that is just about the coolest server you have ever seen.

12:31 PM 11/25/2006 - This morning, I fixed the character encoding on the main site. That was not an easy task. Soon, we will have to do some more improvements to the renderer, but - this is a work in progress. As you can see below, we have had some traffic recently, so the site is gaining a little bit of popularity. Although others would still deny it, we are one of the very first unofficial forks of wikipedia. This has been no small feat, to single handedly rewrite the entire wikipedia engine from scratch in Java. Much to do yet....

9:26 PM 11/16/2006 - Special thank you to Captain Wayne Andrews, owner operator of Andrews Charters, (Andrews Charter) for helping to support this project. :)
7:46 AM 11/10/2006 - Last night I made several improvements to the site. I fixed punctuation, character encodings, and a few other items. I also added some google adsense. This should help offset the rising cost of running this site. For those who follow this site, please keep your eyes peeled for what happens next in this.
3:20 AM 11/2/2006 - Changed logo. The search engine uses Googles SOAP API, and another search engine, and then merges the results. This is a link to the google API. Because it is in BETA, we're not allowed to use it, so it is disabled. Some minimal form of advertising may be required at some point, to keep things going. I think we will just DIY through PayPal. So, if you are interested in getting some cheap fully qualified traffic/adspace to help support this site, please click the button below. We do get quite a few visitors now (probably more than you think), and any support we could get would always help to improve the website. And this site NEEDS improvements. It has gotten rather expensive to do everything ourselves so far.

6:15 PM 10/31/2006 - Just finished carving pumpkins. So, Happy Hallowe'en. Here is a link to the word: pumpkin

9:33 AM 10/31/2006 - ATTACK OF THE KILLER SPIDERS In the last 24 hours it seems every spider on the internet decided to join in the spider frenzy. Our logs show over 2,000,000 GET requests from spiders. You do the math. None the less it knocked us off the internet for several hours in the wee hours of the morning. Talk about bad luck.
4:04 PM 10/30/2006 - Today I found out the backup power system doesn't work. Toronto's City TV sais it was due to 90km winds which knocked out power lines in the GTA. yawiktionary.com was disconnected from the internet for a total of 2.1 hours. Because of this, I decided to make this weeks word of the week "oops".
This weeks:

Word of the Week
(WOW)

9:15 AM 10/21/2006 - I created a new search engine for the site, it searchs the site, and it searchs the internet. I hope you like it. Stamina is the word of the week (again). I am also using this oppurtunity to find out if people actually click on ad's or what.
This weeks:

Word of the Week
(WOW)

4:45 AM 9/29/2006 - During certain information gathering, I decided this weeks word should be "Analyze".

7:14 PM 9/20/2006 - First things first. I have been rather busy switching the GIF's to JPG's. This process is not finished quite yet, but will be finished when I do the next update. The forum is finished, and working. However it is still being tested. It will be open next week (Crosses fingers).

After some long, and interesting conversations over several pints of beer with my friend Mike, we pondered the question: "What if yawiki allowed people to edit with HTML, JavaScript, IE - give the users full control over the presentation of a 'page' " ??? At this critical time during the evolution of wiki technology, yawiki is trying to do something very different. We both agreed that chaos would probably ensue. We came to the conclusion that content "quality" is important. However, I dont want people to end up in fights, as they do in wikipedia. This is one of the reasons I forked wikipedia. Actually, I was one of the very first forkers. In recent news, the former founder of wikipedia has decided to also "fork" wikipedia. This sent shock waves throughout the community. As with me, many were unhappy with this choice. I received alot of flame, nasty comments etc. So here we are, going down a new road - and we have alot of choices now. The multiplication of wikis on the internet "yawiki's" is essentially adding more than one point of view. This will be an interesting evolution for information because it will be impossible to police. Indeed the internet has been filled with Spam wikis. However, this yawiki will not be spam. By allowing users the freedom to alter 100% of the page, it would logically lead to spam. The only way around this is peer review. But we cant force people to review, so the design must be natural, and be reviewed "naturally". In this sense, rather than having 1 view point on a particular 'page', there may be many view points. These views should be given a way to naturally compete in my opinion. I suppose that is enough philosophical chit chat for one day.

Oh, new Word of the Week is breeze. I decided on this word while enjoying the gentle fall breeze in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

9:56 PM 9/13/2006 - Death is the Word of the Week. I choose this word after watching a documentary called "Dying at grace" by Allan King. 2 Thumbs up. Oh, for those who didnt notice, I changed the site a bit. The change should make it faster. I also have to change all of the gifs to jpgs. I didnt know this, but its an important part of GNU.
1:12 AM 9/12/2006 - I still think that these graphics are cool to watch grow and change. Here is the newest.
4:43 PM 9/7/2006 - Forum is still coming. Thanks to the good people at Canadian Financial Network I was able to get a new server for the site. The server is "under construction" and will be launched soon. I wont make any promises, but I will say that the new server will also have a new version of the site. :-) Stay tuned for that. I have some cool pictures of everything being put together too.
7:17 PM 8/30/2006 - Ok. My system clock is about 3 hours behind, so this posting is actually happening in my past. I restructured the site. This is so that my blogging does not interfere with the whole sites load time. I figured its not fair, to the visitors of this site. Here is a great link to no where. Here is a link to home. I have not had enough time lately to do all of the things I would like to do. I am trying to find a good, GPL GNU blog. So far, no luck. Ideas should be sent to yawiki at yawiki dot org. Oh. A forum will be here shortly. Source forge open now. I was correct about the hotmail thing. However now that it is open, I dont know what to do with it. Do you?
9:15 PM 8/27/2006 - This weeks:

Word of the Week

9:57 PM 8/19/2006 - Please support yawiki and visit our Gift Shop! (The alpha 0.04 version wont be around much longer!)

9:40 AM 8/19/2006 - I was looking at the statistics today, looking closer at europe. That is pretty cool indeed. Here is a look:

5:16 PM 8/15/2006 - Due to popular demand, we have the "word of the week". If the site is ever popular enough, I will gladly do a word of the day. Ok. So here it is:

Word of the Week
(WOW)

2:41 AM 8/11/2006 - A close up look at the USA, and the traffic distribution.
11:34 PM 8/4/2006 - Very cool graphic provided by google analytics. Have a look at the stats below.
9:40 AM 8/4/2006 - Working on braille translations over the long weekend. Early thanks goes out to Kenneth D. Huffman for those contributions.
5:01 PM 8/03/2006 - Heard back from GNU, several items will need to be addressed. I don't have as much time on my hands to do everything as I would like. This is a "side" project I'm doing in my spare time with the help of some others. A contributor section is coming shortly. Slowly but steady. Be the turtle! I will enter new page descriptions need work. Thanks to Tony Hua for finding some problems with our current unicode implementation. Finished the initial sound upload. A few files are still locked. Search engines relations are getting better bit by bit. Want to help? P L E A S E email to: yawiki at yawiki dot org. Last night integrated sitemap generator / XML dump into the engine for indexing. Sitemap not properly indexing quite yet. Special thanks to the people at Cre8asite Forums for the on going help getting the initial project rolling. Always good to get some constructive criticism even if it hurts your ego. You'll always benefit if you listen to what others say.
11:54 AM 7/31/2006 - I just removed a bunch of garbage which was in the database. Amazing to know how much useless information can build up like that. I culled over 2200 records this morning.
8:58 PM 7/30/2006 - Still having problems with some search engines, I checked the stats with google analytics. Looks pretty neat. Quite a global bunch. See below.
7:51 PM 7/30/2006 - 28000+ Added sounds. Sounds done with english sound pack, so some are incorrect. Looking for solution with freetts. Removed more wiki markup from the core parser. Added 3200 new words. Having difficulty with the server, some file transfers are stalling (due to size?). Uhg. Should finish by wednesday. Ideas? Please send them to yawiki at yawiki dot org. Unable to register at source forge. Could be our hotmail email address? Rich client still buggy, won't release on time. Maybe Late August? Registered project with GNU, but have not heard anything yet.
